From The Mothers of Laleh Park and supporters:
Stop the executions and intimidations against the political-civic activists and the ordinary people!
On the eve of the parliamentary elections and with the drumbeat of war, we feel an eminent and increasing danger of executions and intimidations against political-civic activists.
While the regime of Iran's only response to the inquiries of the mothers and family members of those killed and the political prisoners has been nothing but jail, repression and intimidation, its options to bring people to the voting boots is beating the drum of war and creating fear of the "foreign enemy" in addition to creating more fear and more repression.
A new wave of forced confessions shown in the media, as a consequence of brutal tortures and execution orders for Said Malekpour, Vahid Asghari, Shahrooz Vaziri, Ahmadreza Hashempour, Mehdi Alizadeh, Amirmirza Hekmati, Javad Lari, Zaniar and Loghman Moradi and recent attacks against independent journalists and writers and civic activists are all signs of escalation in social pressures.
According to amnesty international, security forces have arrested at least 49 people, after an attack on Arab regions of Shush, Hamidieh and Ahvaz. There are reports that these attacked followed some calls to boycott the upcoming elections. During the attacks, the security forces shot and killed one person and injured several others. Three of the detainees died under torture.
Also, on Friday morning, January 3rd., the security forces in Shiraz, visited the homes of more than 30 followers of Baha'i faith and arrested at least 11 of them.
In addition, pressures against the family members of those killed and political-consciences prisoners and Mourning Mothers of Iran have been increased. Even the parents of Akbar Mohamadi were stopped from leaving the country at the airport and Parvin Mokhtareh was arrested and thrown in jail, because of her inquiries about her imprisoned son, Koohyar Goudarzi.
There have been heavy sentences issued for Jila Karamzadeh Makvandi, Leila Seifalahi and Jila Mahdavian and Jila Karamzadeh Makvandi is already serving her sentence. There have been bogus charges brought up against some of The Mothers of Laleh Park, including Mansoureh Behkish and Omalbanin Ebrahimi, who are waiting for court hearings. Some of the supporters of The Mothers of Laleh Park are under investigation, because of their solidarity with the group.
It is not a surprise to witness an increase in human rights abuses in Iran, when the head of the judiciary system, against all condemnations by the United nations Human Rights Council, officially declares that the acceptance of the Human Rights Charter by Iran has been a mistake.
According to Amnesty International, there has been 600 cases of public executions reported, only within an 11 months period (and for sure, the real number is higher than what has been reported officially.). We can expect more executions with the passing of the recent inhuman "Islamic Punishment" law.
According to section 287 of this law, those convicted of "action against national security", "distribution of false information" or "promotion of corruption and prostitution", will be considered "Corrupter of the Earth" and their sentence will be death, which was five years before. Obviously, these vague charges which have unfairly resulted in the imprisonment of many political-civic activists, can easily lead to more executions.
Execution charges against Said Malekpour, Vahid Asghari and Shahrooz Vaziri charged with promotion of corruption and prostitution, were issued only because they were creators of some computer programs and had no control over the use of the programs by the buyers, after the sale.
We strongly condemn all executions, repressions, arrests and tortures against political-civic activists and the ordinary people, which are all signs of regime's weakness.
The Mothers of Laleh Park and supporters stressing their general demands of abolishment of capital punishment, freedom of all political-consciences prisoners and open and fair trial of those who ordered and carried out the killings and crimes of The Islamic Republic since its inception, demand the recent execution orders to be declared null immediately, freedom of Jila Karamzadeh Makvandi, an immediate end to the investigations against Mothers of Laleh Park, and repressions against political-civic activists and the people.
